Description
Designed by Walter Darwin Teague, this iconic original streamline Art Deco Sparton 557 radio retains it’s black enameled cracked ice finish on the wood. The glass is the original colbolt glass. Considered to be one of the classic examples of American streamline design, this is an excellent working example of the first production of this Sparton radio. Walter Darwin Teague is considered one of the foremost American modernist industrial designers. Beginning with his first client in 1927 and working well into the 1950s, he was responsible for changing the face of American Modernism. Through the years he created innovative product designs for Kodak, Spartan radio, Steuben Glass, Steinway, Texaco, Polaroid and many more.
