Description
Vermeil and pearl photograph frame in the manner of Fabergé
Russian, 20th Century
Frame: Height 10cm, width 9cm, depth 8cm
Case: Height 3cm, width 14cm, depth 14cm
This picture frame is designed in the style of the famed Russian jeweller Fabergé. The frame is rectangular in profile with a surface profusely ornamented with brilliant blue guilloché enamel. The frame is edged along its exterior with vermeil (or silver gilt) borders, the vermeil cast with rosette-form motifs. The circular picture holder is encompassed by a foliate vermeil border inset with pearls. The enamel surface of the frame is set with vermeil elements, including a rectangular blind border and four star-shaped and jewel-inset mounts. The frame is raised by an easel backing and twin ball feet and is topped by a crown composed of a crown and ribbons.
The frame is contained by a wooden box, lined with silk and velvet. The inside of the case is marked ‘Fabergé’ in Cyrillic, as is the vermeil of the frame. The vermeil is also marked with standard Russian silver marks designating 875 grade silver.
