This set of four serving bowls belongs to the Flora Danica service, one of Royal Copenhagen's long-running patterns, originally commissioned in the late 18th century and inspired by the Flora Danica encyclopaedia, a catalogue documenting the plant life of the Danish kingdom.

Each bowl is potted in white porcelain and painted with a botanical specimen in pastel tones. The upper walls carry a band of gilt rectangular panels with pink grounds and applied bosses, from which pairs of leaves hang, above a pierced gilt rim; the footrims are gilt.

The undersides bear the Royal Copenhagen mark, the three-wave mark, the shape number 3555, and the Latin name of the plant depicted, painted in script — Tormentilla reptans L. and Vinca minor L.
