Description
CAST IRON WALL-MOUNTED GARDEN FOUNTAIN WITH A LION'S MASK
Circa early 20th century with later teal painted surface
30 3/8" H x 15 3/4" W x 5 7/8" D
Cast iron wall-mounted fountain, early to mid-20th century. The arched backplate features a relief of a lion’s head fitted for a spout beneath scrolling floral motifs in the upper spandrels and vine-and-berry relief on either side beneath floral rosettes and simple finials. The demilune basin is a separately cast piece joined with (replaced) screws, the gadrooned rim projecting over gentle tapered reeding around the bowl. Finished in a later teal paint. Designed for garden or courtyard use, this classic form draws on 19th-century European models that combined decorative appeal with functional water delivery. Unmarked.
Condition: Refinished in a modern teal paint - we are also happy to have it refinished in another color upon request. Both screws joining the basin to the backplate have been replaced. Ready to place.
