Description
DAVID LINLEY
United Kingdom, b. 1961
Blonde Walnut Green-Leather Double Pedestal Writing Desk
A custom design
Walnut veneers, ebony inlay and knobs, oak secondary woods, green leather
30" H x 53 7/8" W x 29 1/2" D, 25" H to underside of desk
A very fine custom design made by David Linley for Mr. and Mrs. Kahn together with its watercolor painted proposal design document, the desk is typical of Linley designs with extraordinary attention paid to even the smallest details. The top is covered in a top-grain green leather with a brass-finished cord port that includes a solid ebony coverplate, the top lightly projecting over the series of graduated drawers (some with faux faceplates to disguise the drawer sizes) hung with solid carved ebony knobs. Each is hand-dovetailed and glides on modern metal tracks. The entire desk breaks down into numerous components for safe transport.
A similar desk is available in the Made-to-Order stock currently advertised by Linley for 37,026.00 USD in a dark burl finish with subtle design differences.
Condition: Vintage condition with some scuffing and blemishes, including some edge wear around the base molding (more notably where you would sit and the feet of your chair might strike the moldings), an oxidized scratch on the side of pedestal, minor rubbing wear here and there. Overall a very fine presentation, ready to place.
