Description
Pair of Egyptian Revival carved and gilt wooden pedestals
French, early 20th Century
Height 105cm, width 52cm, depth 51cm
This eccentric pair of pedestals is crafted in the Egyptian Revival style. Each pedestal features four legs modelled as seated sphinxes, with the tabletop of each supported on the tips of their wings. The sphinxes sit on a shaped shelf, which is raised on four feet with palmettes between. The wood is deftly carved throughout, and parcel gilt on occasion, which lends a sense of texture and depth to the carving. -
