Reconstituted Stone Oval Basketweave Planter, France Mid 20th C.

Offered by: Modern Antiquarian

Description
With a weathered patina and precise basket weave mould, this French mid-20th-century reconstituted stone planter adds texture and depth to any garden. The design echoes ancient techniques from woven patterns that first appeared in Egyptian reed baskets and later in Roman mosaics and architecture, where the interlace symbolized order and craftsmanship. In 18th-century Europe, stone basket weave motifs became popular in formal gardens, used in planters, urns, and balustrades. This planter continues that tradition, offering both visual interest and durability. Its solid form is ideal for anchoring shrubs, flowers, or ornamental grasses, while the woven texture softens the stone, making it a versatile piece for both decorative and functional use. Wear consistent with age and use. 20"w x 16"d x 8"h
