Description
A rare and beautifully unified set of four Italian Neoclassical garden sculptures from the 1930s, conceived as an allegorical representation of The Four Seasons. Cast in durable grit composite, a stone-like material favored by Italian garden designers of the interwar period, the figures achieve the visual gravitas of carved stone while retaining remarkable sculptural detail.
Each female figure is rendered in flowing classical drapery and posed with symbolic seasonal attributes, creating a cohesive decorative program rich in narrative and visual rhythm. Together they capture the changing moods of the year through gesture, movement, and iconographic detail, while the softly weathered surface lends the set an authentic, timeworn garden patina.
Elegant as a complete ensemble or positioned throughout a landscape, orangery, or interior installation, the series brings architectural presence and classical romance to any setting. Their scale, poetic unity, and sculptural refinement make them an exceptional statement in both traditional and contemporary environments.
Rendered in the Neoclassical tradition, the figures display the idealized proportions and graceful drapery characteristic of Italian garden sculpture from the 1930s, when the formal villa garden tradition was experiencing a sophisticated revival. Standing at nearly four feet tall, each piece commands genuine presence — equally at home flanking a garden gate or parterre, adorning a terrace, or positioned as anchors within a formal outdoor room. Their grit surface develops a beautiful, stone-like patina over time, only deepening their antique character with each passing season.
The Four Seasons as a sculptural motif has adorned the finest Italian gardens since the Renaissance, making this 1930s revival series a compelling choice for garden designers and collectors seeking period pieces with both decorative authority and historical resonance. Sold as a set of four; each measures 12.4"W × 11.8"D × 48.4"H.
This is an antique and having been around for a long time, it will show signs of wear. Antique pieces have very much sought-after character and associated flaws. Please review photos for condition & contact us with questions! -
