18th-Century Tuscan Fir Travel Box
-
Description
A small 18th-century travel box from Tuscany, crafted in fir wood with a warm, naturally aged patina. Compact in scale yet substantial in presence, this piece was designed to be carried on journeys, holding personal belongings or important documents. The front is framed by rounded corner supports and simple linear molding that speak to the understated elegance of rural Tuscan craftsmanship. The surface shows marks and wear consistent with long use, giving the box depth and authenticity rather than decoration for its own sake. The original iron lock plate remains in place, adding character while preserving the historical integrity of the piece. Raised slightly on small block feet and capped with a molded top, the proportions are balanced and pleasing. At 26.8” wide, it is ideal for use at the foot of a bed, under a console, or as a charming storage piece on a shelf. Quiet, soulful, and true to its origins.
This is an antique and having been around for a long time, it will show signs of wear. Antique pieces have very much sought-after character and associated flaws. Please review photos for condition & contact us with questions! -
