This 19th-century French bronze statuette captures the hardworking spirit and naturalism of rural life during the late 19th century. The sculpture depicts a fisherman, standing confidently with a fishing net slung over his shoulder and a basket of freshly caught fish in his hand. His rugged features, sturdy pose, and detailed attire reflect the realism and attention to character that define the era’s artistic sensibilities.
Crafted in patinated bronze, the piece boasts exceptional detailing, from the texture of the fishing net to the folds of his rolled-up trousers and the fish in his basket. The statuette rests on a solid base that evokes the rocky shoreline, grounding the figure in a naturalistic setting.
