Description
An exceptional pair of 19th century Meissen porcelain covered urns, beautifully crafted in Germany during the mid to late 19th century by the renowned Meissen porcelain manufactory, the oldest porcelain manufacturer in Europe. Executed in the elegant Rococo style, each urn displays the extraordinary artistry and craftsmanship for which Meissen is internationally celebrated.
Each baluster-form urn is decorated with a delicate pastel palette of pink, yellow, green, and blue against a glazed white ground. The pierced domed cover is richly embellished with gilt Rocaille ornamentation and profusely encrusted with finely modeled porcelain flowers. Rising from the center of each cover is an elaborate crown flanked by two seated putti, surrounded by an abundance of colorful blossoms that create a dramatic sculptural composition.
The body of each urn is adorned on both sides with beautifully hand-painted floral bouquets in soft shades of pink, yellow, blue, green, and purple. Applied porcelain flowers, leaves, and fruit frame the painted cartouches, seamlessly continuing the decoration from the cover to the base and showcasing the remarkable realism achieved by Meissen's master artisans. The combination of hand-painted decoration, intricate flower encrustation, and lavish gilding exemplifies the finest quality of 19th century European porcelain. Each urn measures 17.75 inches high by 7.5 inches in diameter and is in good antique condition, with minor wear consistent with age and use. -
