20th Century Mixed Media "Couture Rigueur" Dress Form by Kathleen Holmes

Mixed Media "Couture Rigueur" or "Rigorous Sewing" sculpture by fiber/mixed media artist, Kathleen Holmes (2004, USA).
Holmes' unique style juxtaposes gentle, graceful materials with rusted metal representing the man-made aspects of culture in order to provide the visual and conceptual counterpoint to the woman-made textiles and feminine subject matter.
In this case, the artist presents a dress maker's work in progress. The dress form is in the process of being meticulously outfitted with small found objects (primarily plastic buttons and seashell-forms stained to give them an antiqued appearance) with only the front left incomplete. The bodice, by contrast, is rusted metal featuring a pin holding miniature scissors and spools of thread.
Incredibly detailed, impressive conversation piece measuring H: 20.25" x L: 8.5" x D: 7.5" (a diminutive dress form but a sizable tabletop sculpture).
Very good, original condition.
