Description
A pair of 18th century English flintlock pistols by Ketland and Co. having proof-marked brass barrels, walnut stocks and engraved steel locks, both with original ramrods and both in mechanically sound condition.
Thomas Ketland & Co. was a very successful firearms manufacturer founded in Birmingham, England c. 1760 and by 1790 had expanded into the export market . The firm also had a "wholesale warehouse" in London. Thomas died in 1816, although the firm remained in business until 1821. These pistols, because of the London proof-marks on the barrels, imply these pistols were made after expansion into London in 1780. -
