Description
Maestro Alberto Dona has been sculpting glass for three-quarters of a century. His work is characterized by the use of bold color and added dimension. Using standard techniques of the trade, such as polegosso, sommerso, and cotisso, Dona creates layers on top of and within the glass, adding depth to the otherwise two-dimensional surface.
This trio of cobalt blue vases is exemplary of Dona’s work. The core dimension of Cobalt and clear Sommerso glass is moulded to create “canneto”, or channels, adding dimension to the flat outer surface. The piece is then sandblasted, rendering the glass opaque and obscuring the dimensions beneath. The effect is like looking through the surface of wind-blown water at the deep blue water below. Each piece is incised with the artist's signature on the bottom. Sold as a set.
