Alessandro Mendini (born August 16, 1931, Milan-died February 18, 2019, Milan) was an Italian designer, critic, painter and architect. He played an important part in the development of Italian design. Aside from his artistic career, he worked for Casabella, Modo, and Domus magazines. In the 1970s, he was one of the main personalities of the Radical design movement. In 1979, he became a partner of Studio Alchimia, where he worked with Ettore Sottsass and Michele De Lucchi.
Back in 1989, together with his brother Francesco, he founded Atelier Mendini in Milan. The studio produced everything from objects and furnishings to installations, interiors, paintings, architecture and international collaborations.
The project Superego was born in 2003 within Movimento Moderno, a company working in design, decorative arts and antiques for several years. Through the co-operation with some of the most important Italian and international designers, Superego intends to create exclusive collections, in limited and numbered editions of pottery and objects made in plexiglass or other materials. -
