Description
A rare form within Alvino Bagni's oeuvre, this large ceramic sphere vase is glazed in a lustrous metallic silver and pierced with a constellation of cutout stars, several finished with dimensional gold-glazed points that project from the surface. Bagni produced the piece at his own studio, Ceramiche Bagni, in Lastra a Signa near Florence; sculptures of this scale and finish rarely surface on the market today. The sphere rests on a small footed base and measures 13 in (33 cm) high by 13.75 in (34.9 cm) in diameter. The underside carries the original paper label: "Alvino Bagni, Lastra a Signa, Firenze, V.426."
