Robert Swain Painting, Abstract, Acrylic on Canvas, Pink, Blue, Green, Signed. Medium scale optical grid painting in a spectrum of colors by Manhattan artist Robert Swain (born 1940). Confirmed by Mr. Swain (via email) as a study for a much larger nine-foot painting — the "9" in #916 indicates the final canvas size. Signed in black marker on verso, dated March 31, 1979.
Swain is a member of the Hunter Color School whose work is held in nearly 300 public and private collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Whitney Museum, Walker Art Center, and the Hirshhorn. Recipient of the Guggenheim Fellowship and two National Endowment for the Arts awards.
