Antique Wooden Drying Rack, France, 19th Century

$ 3,700
  • Description
    This antique wooden drying rack, traditionally known in France as an égouttoir, originates from the 19th century and was used for drying bottles, jugs and household utensils after washing. Crafted entirely by hand, it features rows of slender wooden pegs arranged within a robust frame, creating a striking linear composition. The weathered surface, natural wear and original incised numbering bear witness to decades of practical use and contribute to its remarkable authenticity.

    Today, the piece is appreciated as much for its sculptural presence as for its historical function. Its aged timber, organic imperfections and timeworn patina embody the principles of Wabi-Sabi, celebrating the beauty of age, simplicity and material honesty. Whether displayed as a decorative wall object, a storage element or a statement piece within a curated interior, it offers a compelling balance between rural utility and sculptural form. As with all our rustic furniture and accessories, this piece has undergone a preventive two-cycle woodworm treatment as part of its long-term conservation.
