Description
Large silver, vermeil and diamond model of a lion by Asprey
English, c. 1980
Lion: Height 12cm, width 38cm, depth 13cm
Case: Height 19cm, width 49cm, depth 23cm
Superbly crafted by Asprey in around 1980, the model depicts a majestic lion.
Completely made from silver, several anatomical features of the lion are beautifully depicted on the model. For example, one can notice the fine details on the lion’s paws or his face. Vermeil (silver-gilt) is used to accentuate the animal’s hair, in particular his mane and paws. The diamond set eyes add a shimmering feature to the piece and emphasize its luxurious properties.
An elegant, fitted presentation case comes with the piece. Lined with plush red velvet, the lion can be displayed or stored in the case. The cover beards Asprey’s Royal Warrant mark presented to them in 1862 by Queen Victoria. This is a testament to the firm’s exceptional quality goods.
Wonderfully crafted by a renowned firm, this refined silver and silver gilt model would make a stunning decorative object in the appropriate interior.
The piece weighs approximately 1,055 grammes.
