Description
A ceramic vase by American artist and studio potter Beatrice Wood (1893-1998). The piece, circa 1980s, is of a columnar form with a small bulged-out ring around midbody. Highly geometrical and modern in its minimalistic appearance, the vase was covered in a black glaze that has a very subtle metallic sheen. The glaze was applied in a casual manner flowing it down to the base, rendering the piece a humble Wabi-Sabi appeal. Signed on the unglazed bottom "Beato".
Beatrice Wood was a multi-disciplinary artist and author. In her long life and career, she was known as Mama of Dada, an avant-garde artist, a potter, an author, and an inspiration. Her long career with pottery is distinguished by a signature style of in-glaze luster that draws the metallic salts to the surface of the glaze by starving the kiln of oxygen. -
