Carl Auböck II Raffia Brass Wastepaper Basket, Paper Bin, Umbrella Stand, 1950s
-
Description
A beautiful and minimalistic vintage Mid-Century Modern wastepaper basket / paper bin on a tripod brass base from the 1950s. Model 3890, designed by Carl Auböck II and manufactured by Werkstätten Carl Auböck, Vienna, Austria. These paper baskets are generally not easy to find, but this version with the tripod brass base is particularly rare.
The basket is handmade from raffia and features two small side handles; the base is made of solid brass, gently hand-polished. It is in very good condition with only minimal signs of age. This object is also known to have been offered as an umbrella stand, and the basket can also be used without the base—thanks to the small handle, it can be hung on a wall or, ideally, on an Auböck coat rack. Please see the pictures.

Basket alone: diameter and height approx. 10"
