Description
An elegant and unusual example of French Art Deco art glass, this tall bottle-form vase was created by Charles Schneider, one of the most celebrated glassmakers of the period. Schneider founded his own glassworks in Épinay-sur-Seine in 1913, and was also a co-founder of Le Verre Français, the studio's decorative line known for its colorful, nature-inspired designs. Schneider's work from this era remains highly prized for its bold use of color and hand-worked techniques.
The vase takes a slender bottle silhouette, with a tall, elongated neck rising from a bulbous, gently tapering body. It is executed in the "filetes" (threaded) decor, a technique in which fine vertical ribbing runs the length of the piece, giving texture and movement to the glass. The vivid neon yellow-green color deepens into a rich blue-green tone at the shoulder before meeting a striking cobalt blue glass application at the base — a dramatic chromatic transition that gives the piece real presence. The vase stands on a matching cobalt blue foot.
The piece is signed "Schneider." - More Information
