-
Description
This cast aluminum sculpture from a tree is part of the remnants series. This body of work centers around natural fuel resources and what is left behind in our quest for energy. This consists of stumps, wood fragments, and deteriorating fences which were collected also from the Caja del Rio.
Chris Collins is a sculptor living and working in Los Angeles. Born and raised in Alabama, he received a BFA in painting from the University of Montevallo and an MFA from Memphis College of Art, and has spent the last decade working in Santa Fe, New Mexico where he has been primarily engaged with the metal casting process, working in several bronze foundries and becoming a highly skilled artisan. In addition to art making, he has participated in contemporary discourse as an educator, teaching at the Santa Fe University of Art and Design, and through operating Santa Fe Collective, an artist centered gallery space with his wife, artist Jennifer Joseph. His current work deals with themes of technology, science, nature and the passage of time. -

Message from Seller:
Pavilion is the collective vision of Deborah Colman and Neil Kraus, both graduates of the master of fine arts program at the Art Institute of Chicago. From a longstanding interest in art and design, frequent buying trips to France and Italy have influenced the direction of the gallery to offer items that are not easily sourced in Chicago and United States. Postwar design has been the focus for 18 yrs and we also look forward to new design that crosses boundaries and dialogues as well to the past
