Description
A FINE LARGE VICTORIAN GLASS DISPLAY DOME ON AN EBONIZED BASE
Probably English, circa late 19th
20 1/8" H x 10 7/8" diameter
Late 19th-century glass display dome with its original ebonized wooden base with a later leather pad loosely rested on the top, overall raised on small bracket feet. These domes were commonly used in the Victorian period to protect and exhibit small objects such as clocks, taxidermy, or personal mementos. Clean, clear glass and a simple base make it perfectly suitable for presenting sculpture or decorative objects while protecting them from dust and grime.
Condition: Minor wear to the ebonized base. Replaced leather pad on interior. Glass in good clear condition with only minor wear.
