    Circa late 19th/early 20th century

    "Standing Napoleon"

Carved alabaster | signed in script to the reverse of the base "Moreau"

    Item # C104701

A lovely decorative sculpture that captures the emperor Napoleon standing and looking into a point in the infinite distance. It is carved from a solid block of alabaster, the silky translucency of the stone almost soapy in appearance. The back of the base is signed by an unknown sculptor "Moreau". It was likely carved for the Grand Tourists during the late 19th and early 20th century. A nice size.

    Condition Report:
Discolorations to the stone in a number of places from age and gentle use, rust-like staining in a few areas, notably the base; minor chips, flea bites and losses around the base; presents attractively.
