French Pair of 18th Century Gilt Candlesticks

$ 2,200
  • Description
    Dimensions: 30” H x 7 ¾” W x 7 ¾” D

    A stunning pair of French, 18th century giltwood candlesticks from a church or cathedral. These substantial “pricket” candlesticks will make a statement on any mantel or table: tall, slender forms on tripod bases are mounted with their original wrought iron spikes and their baluster forms are decorated with Classical (and subtle Louis XVI) patterns like stylized leaves, fluting, and festooned motifs highlighted by the rich gold leaf finish of soft patina. Note that they are not entirely gilded to save resources as the pair would have been against the altar and not seen in the round, so one vertical strip on the backside appears more of a burnt sienna than gold. Please view the detailed images to see more of these amazing candlesticks. Sold as a pair.
