German Porcelain Ballerina, Rosenthal Selb-Bavaria, circa 1920

An elegant early 20th-century German porcelain figure of a ballerina, produced by Rosenthal in Selb-Bavaria, circa 1920. Finely modeled in white porcelain, the sculpture captures a female ballet dancer in a graceful, outstretched pose, dressed in traditional ballerina attire with delicately rendered ballet slippers. The extended position gives the figure a wonderful sense of movement and balance, while the clean white porcelain emphasizes the sculptural quality of the composition.
The ballerina is presented on an elongated oval-form base that provides a stable foundation while maintaining the light, graceful appearance of the figure. Particular attention has been given to the modeling of the dancer's costume, posture, and extended limbs, resulting in a refined decorative sculpture characteristic of early 20th-century German porcelain. The underside of the base is marked “Rosenthal Selb-Bavaria,” identifying the renowned Rosenthal porcelain manufactory in Selb, Bavaria. The mark and period are consistent with Rosenthal production from the early 20th century.
Measuring approximately 11½ inches long, 5 inches deep, and 6½ inches high, this graceful porcelain ballerina would make an elegant addition to a mantel, console, dressing table, bookshelf, or collection of European porcelain sculpture. Its restrained white palette allows it to complement both traditional and more contemporary interiors. In excellent antique condition, with no chips, cracks, or repairs.
