Gio Ponti Walnut Wastepaper Basket, 1939, Italy

A Gio Ponti designed walnut wastepaper basket made for the Vetrocoke offices, Marghera, Venice, circa 1939. Extremely elegant, featuring a square tapered silhouette that gently widens toward the top opening. Crafted with warm and rich walnut, the piece features mitered top rim detailing and sits atop a stepped molded base. The interior is finished in dark brown, and the underside retains an original numbered paper label on the underside with inventory # "114". Expertise n. 25105/000 issued by Gio Ponti Archives, Milan.
