J. Lormier French Art Deco Bronze of a Young Woman with Borzoi Dog
A large and superb French Art Deco bronze by J. Lormier, depicting a kneeling young woman tenderly petting her Borzoi dog. The subject is beautifully modeled, with the figure leaning forward in a quiet, intimate pose as the dog responds with equal grace. The composition captures the affection between the two figures, while still retaining the stylized refinement associated with French Art Deco sculpture.

The details are especially fine. The young woman’s face, hands, and geometric bobbed hair are sharply sculpted, showing the hand of a highly skilled artist. The bronze has a silvered and cold painted finish, creating a beautiful contrast between the figure and the warm tones of the dog. The Borzoi is full of character, with a slender body, expressive head, and carefully worked surface.

The sculpture rests on a large stepped Portoro Nero marble base, with rich veining that gives the piece a strong decorative foundation. There is some slight nibbling to the marble corners, consistent with age, but the overall presentation remains outstanding.
