Description
Pair of animalier bronze dog sculptures by Jules Moigniez
French, late 19th Century
Height 13cm, width 22cm, depth 10cm
This charming pair of dog sculptures is by the French animalier sculptor Jules Moigniez, who has been celebrated since his own day as one of the nineteenth century’s leading portrayers of animal life. The sculptures depict two dogs: both are hunting dogs, each standing in animated posture on a naturalistically rendered ground. Their bodies and musculature are faithful to reality, and the varied patination lends their forms a sense of texture and depth. The bronzes are signed ‘J. Moigniez’.
