Jules Moigniez
French, 1835 - 1894
Jules Moigniez (1835-1894) was a French animal sculptor who was active in the 19th century. He was born in Senlis, France, and began his career as an apprentice in a bronze foundry before pursuing his own artistic career.
Moigniez was known for his realistic and highly detailed animal sculptures, which were often modeled after birds of prey, game birds, and domestic animals. He was skilled in capturing the dynamic movement and naturalistic poses of his animal subjects, and his sculptures were highly sought after by collectors and connoisseurs of fine art.
Moigniez exhibited his work at the Paris Salon and other international exhibitions, and he received numerous awards and accolades for his sculptures. His work was collected by royalty and aristocrats, including Napoleon III and the Duke of Westminster.
Today, Moigniez's sculptures are highly prized by collectors of animal art and are considered to be among the finest examples of 19th-century animal sculpture.
