Description
Pair of bronze game bird sculptures by Jules Moigniez
French, late 19th Century
Heights 32 and 31cm, width 26cm, depth 13cm
Each bird in this pair is a partridge—the ubiquitous European game bird. The partridges are cast from bronze and are finished with a beautiful, polychrome patina. Each partridge in the pair stands on its own base, which is littered with leaves and rocks typical of a partridge’s terrain, all cast in bronze.
Jules Moigniez was acclaimed in his day for his sculptures of game birds, and his works are widely collected today. Each bird is signed on the base ‘J. Moigniez’.
