Description
PRESENTING a GORGEOUS PAIR of extremely rare and important Lladro, long retired porcelain figurine sculptures.
Known as the ‘Chinese Farmer’ and the ‘Chinese Farmer with Staff’.
These were the ‘names’ given to them by Lladro, but they were based upon figures from Chinese mythology and early Chinese sculptures.
These figurines were sculpted for Lladro by Jose Roig, one of the very best Lladro sculptors. They were made in limited numbers between 1977 and in 1985 they were retired.
Made of a ‘bisque’ type of porcelain, with a ‘matte’ finish and hand decorated and painted.
Both fully and properly marked and initialed by the sculptor.
The ‘Chinese Farmer’ is marked “6 – 5”
The ‘Chinese Farmer with Staff’ is marked “3 – 5”.
Both of these are marked, as the ‘5th ones’ ever produced!
They are VERY EARLY and HIGHLY, HIGHLY COLLECTIBLE!
They are also BEAUTIFUL and SERIOUSLY IMPOSING STATEMENT pieces!
We dare you to try and find one of these online, let alone the Pair!
For a brief period (about 10 years) from the mid-1970’s to the mid-1980’s, Lladro commissioned, designed and ran, an ‘Asian inspired Series’ of sculptures and vases. These were one of their ‘flagship’ sculptures and carried a ‘very high retail price’, at the time.
Because of this value, the ‘fakers’ (specifically in China) took an interest and copies were reproduced to take advantage of the ‘eager’ Lladro Collector market. These ‘fakes’ were much poorer in detail, shorter in height and colored wrongly.
THESE ARE 100% GENUINE and AUTHENTIC!
They were purchased by us, from a US Collector of extremely rare and retired Lladro porcelain, who assembled her rare collection in the 1970’s and 1980’s, whilst visiting Europe and Spain.
Very few of these were made and are almost impossible to find!
Both are on a later faux wood plinth, with silver labels made to really exhibit and ‘show-off’ these HIGHLY DESIRABLE pieces!
Provenance: Bought from a Private Collector.
Dimensions: Each is 21.25 inches tall on it’s own and 25.25 inches tall on the plinth
The Plinth is 10 x 10 inches squared.
Condition: Near Mint. -
