Description
H. Fereday & Sons, London, antique classic style T-shaped brass equal arm scale from the 19th Century, mounted on a wooden base. The brass center column holds the horizontal balance beam which supports the left shaped arm and flat platform, the right side holds a round pan, marked in the center with the initials C.I.A., and is held in place by three rods with a small bell shaped weight at the top.
Would be great as a decorative display piece in an attorney's office or even in the kitchen or study.
Equal arm scales are the oldest form of scale and can be traced back to 2400BC. You use this scale to measure unknown items against known weights. It had different sizes of apothecary weights as measurement standards. -
