Description
Maurice Dufrene Art Deco Vase for La Maîtrise by Boch Keramis
This vibrant Art Deco vase was created for La Maîtrise, the decorative arts workshop of Galeries Lafayette in Paris. La Maîtrise was established to promote the finest French design and was directed by Maurice Dufrene, one of the most important figures in the development of modern French style. Under Dufrene’s leadership the workshop produced forward looking works that brought refined artistry and bold creativity to a wide audience.
The vase was manufactured by Boch Keramis in La Louviere in Belgium and decorated in the distinctive cloisonne ceramic technique that made the workshop famous. The raised enamel lines, layered color fields and rhythmic geometric pattern show the influence of French modern design during the peak years of the Art Deco movement. Works connected to Dufrene and La Maîtrise remain especially collectible due to their beauty, craftsmanship and their direct link to one of the great Parisian design institutions of the early twentieth century. This example, in excellent condition and displays exceptional color and presence. - More Information
