Description
Art Deco Style Cubist Oil Painting "Along the Wharf" & "The Harbor" by Pascal Jarrion
Both are an original oil on wood panel painting by French artist Pascal Jarrion, depicting a bustling dockside scene of ocean liners, smokestacks, and cranes compressed into a single dynamic composition. Dark plumes of smoke rise from a cluster of red and black funnels, anchoring the scene in the working rhythm of a busy port.
Pascal's distinctive visual language draws on Cubism and Futurism, breaking the ships and surrounding structures into overlapping angular planes that convey both architectural detail and a strong sense of motion. The result captures the energy of early twentieth century maritime industry filtered through a contemporary Cubist lens.
Two ocean liners anchor the composition, their white hulls and rows of portholes rendered with careful attention to detail even as the surrounding space fractures into sharp geometric planes. Red and black funnels rise above the ships, releasing dark clouds of smoke that drift across the upper portion of the painting in soft, textured brushwork.
Deep reds and blue grays define the water and dockside structures below, while a crane and ladder-like framework at lower left add further architectural complexity to the scene. Together with its companion painting "The Harbor," this composition continues Pascal's exploration of industrial maritime subjects through a fractured, dynamic Cubist structure.
Measuring 24 by 22 inches, "Along the Wharf" is a striking and atmospheric painting well suited to a study, office, or any interior calling for a bold industrial subject, and is presented in a warm gold-toned wood frame. The paintings are signed by Pascal Jarrion. They can be purchased individually.
