Description
“La Comète” by Maurice Guiraud-Rivière (1881–1947), circa 1925. Silvered bronze cast by the Etling Paris foundry, on a brèche griotte marble base., A nude female figure dives headfirst through stylized Art Deco clouds, her flowing hair forming the trailing tail of a comet. The composition captures the era’s fascination with speed, aerodynamism, and modernity.
This is one of the most iconic Art Deco bronzes — it debuted at the 1925 Exposition des Arts Décoratifs in Paris and an example was displayed in the Chrysler Building lobby from 1930 to 1942.
