Description
Tall, beautifully decorated Art Nouveau Vase by Nils Emil Lundstrom 1895-1960. Sophisticated and haunting design meanders around the entire vase. Elements include a pair of guinea fowl, trees, sky and field. Nils Emil Lundstrom was a painter, porcelain painter, ceramicist, furniture maker and textile designer. Between 1896 and 1915 he along with 3 other important artists dominated Rorstrand's exhibitions. He studied in Dusseldorf 1885-89, at the Royal Academy of Art, Stockholm, 1889-92. He likely studied ceramics in Berlin between 1892 and 1894. He was hired by Rorstrand in 1896 and was active until 1935. Trained as a painter, he adorned large vases and platters with flower and animal motifs characterized by Japanese and Danish motifs. His work felt like a painting spread over the porcelain piece. On this vase Lundstrom depicts a barn in the distance two guinea fowl in the foreground and one on the back. Trees are depicted with and without leaves giving a sense of the coming fall season. Signed NL Rorstrand.
