Nils Kähler: Chamotte Bowl (Small)
-
Description
Glazed in a rich, vibey blue and stamped with his iconic herringbone pattern, this bowl is spectacular. Signed “Nils” HAK —for Nils Kähler of the legendary Kähler ceramics family. Made of Chamotte—also known as ‘grog’, ‘firesand’ or “fireclay”—a calcined clay containing a high proportion of alumina, producing an intense color and finish. With its deep turquoise and herringbone design, this is a classic Kähler!
Nils Kähler (1906-1979) Nils was the 4th generation of the Kahler generation, founded in 1839 by Herman Kähler in the town of Næstved, Denmark. Kähler ceramics is deeply rooted in a tradition of craftsmanship and artistic collaboration. The workshop gained international recognition under the leadership of his son, Herman A. Kähler, whose visionary approach and commitment to artistic excellence established Kähler as a leading name in ceramic design. In 1940 together with his brother, Nils ran the Hans A. Kahler workshop as the artistic director, and his pieces were all signed ‘Nils’ to the underside of the base. The brothers went their separate ways in 1968 and the family pottery closed in 1974. -
