Set of seven glass vases by Otto Brauer for Holmegaard, Denmark, 1962
-
Description
Otto Brauer (1911–1984) was certainly one of the leading Danish glass designers of the 20th century, working for Holmegaards Glasværk, in Næstved, Denmark, between the 1940s and the 1970s.
Otto Brauer started his career in the glass industry in 1926 and today he is most known for his ”Gulvvase” (Floor Vase) series for the Holmegaards Glasværk. The vases were designed in 1962 with bottle shapes and bold colours, in five sizes: cm 26, 31, 38, 45, and 52. Throughout the 1960s, the bottles only came in solid colour glass: Olive green, brown, dark blue, and white. In 1970, they were launched with white inner layer and colored outer layer: Red, ruby red, turquoise, green, olive green, and yellow.
The set we present shows small Holmegaard labels on two of the vases. The vases, probably of the late 1960s/early 1970s, are in perfect conditions and come from a private collection. -
