Description
A pair of French Neoclassical zinc baluster urns from the 19th century with low-relief décor. This pair of French Neoclassical zinc baluster urns from the 19th century captivates with its elegant design and intricate low-relief décor. The urns showcase a finely detailed frieze adorning the belly, depicting male figures in classical attire, reminiscent of ancient Greco Roman themes. These figures are artfully rendered in low relief, bringing a sense of depth and movement to the otherwise smooth surface.
The urns feature large, gracefully curving handles that add a bold statement to their overall silhouette. The handles, along with the abundant décor "à l'antique" (as it is known in French), emphasize the classical inspiration behind these pieces, making them perfect examples of the era's fascination with antiquity. The interior of each urn includes a removable liner, adding a practical aspect to their decorative appeal, allowing them to be used as planters or for other ornamental purposes.
Raised on circular bases, the urns maintain a balanced and symmetrical profile, enhancing their aesthetic appeal. The zinc material, known for its durability and attractive patina, lends the urns a distinguished, time-worn look that adds to their historical charm. These urns can be placed in a variety of settings, from a grand entryway to a refined garden space, where they can serve as stunning focal points or elegant complements to other classical decor. With their rich history and artistic detailing, these French Neoclassical zinc baluster urns from the 19th century are sure to bring a touch of timeless elegance and sophistication to any home. -
