Description
Pair of large Louis XVI style gilt bronze mounted fluorspar candelabra
French, 19th Century
Height 61cm, width 35cm, depth 34cm
Crafted in fine Neoclassical and Louis XVI style, these beautiful candelabra are made from the rare and prized mineral fluorspar, also known as fluorite, in a delightful grass green colour that is complemented with ornate ormolu mounts. The vases consist of vase shaped stems with ormolu mounts, of flowers, and five gilt branches also in the shape of flowers. The beautiful natural arrangement of the impurities within the fluorite of the bodies of the vases give them an exceptional decorative pattern. The gilt mounts are in Louis XVI style, as is evident from the square corners on the handles, and the arched colonnade frieze around the neck, and the ribbons of wreath across the front. One mount has at one point been replaced with onyx. -
