Description
Art Deco Style Cubist Ceramic Sculpture “Smooth Night Rhythm” by Pascal Jarrion
“Smooth Night Rhythm” is an original ceramic sculpture by French artist Pascal Jarrion, depicting a group of musicians joined together through a complex arrangement of figures, instruments, and intersecting geometric forms.
The tall, narrow composition has the feeling of a late night jazz performance, with the musicians appearing to move together as if guided by the same quiet rhythm. The strings of the central instrument create a strong vertical line, while the rounded bodies of the instruments and sharply modeled figures bring movement and balance to the sculpture.
Pascal’s distinctive style combines elements of Cubism, Futurism, classical sculpture, and Art Deco. Individual details emerge as the piece is viewed from different angles, including carved hands, instrument strings, sound holes, and faces reduced to expressive geometric forms. The sculpture is fully developed on every side, allowing it to be appreciated from multiple viewpoints.
The ceramic surface has been finished by the artist with a custom patina in layered shades of bronze, brown, charcoal, and warm gold. This richly textured finish gives the ceramic the visual character of an aged bronze while emphasizing the sculptural depth and hand worked surface.
Measuring 17 inches high by 5 inches wide and 4.5 inches deep, “Smooth Night Rhythm” has an impressive vertical presence while remaining a versatile size for display on a console, pedestal, shelf, or cocktail cabinet. It is mounted on a polished black base and signed by Pascal Jarrion. -
