Description
Pierre Le Faguays' exceptional French Art Deco bronze sculpture, "Ondine," is a rare and impressive masterpiece. This monumental 27-inch-tall bronze, signed and set on its original marble base, boasts a striking green or verdigris patina that has gracefully deepened over time. Unlike the smaller version, this larger format enhances the statue’s commanding presence, making it a true statement piece.
Circa 1930, this finely executed bronze captures a mesmerizing nude female figure draped in flowing fabric, embodying elegance and movement. The sculpture’s intricately detailed features, from her enchanting face to the delicate rendering of her hands and feet, reflect Le Faguay’s masterful artistry. The weighty bronze lends a tangible sense of permanence, while its original patina highlights its authenticity and age.
Pierre Le Faguays, a celebrated French sculptor, also worked under the pseudonyms Fayral and Guerbe—derived from his mother’s and wife’s family names. Born in Nantes, France, he gained renown for his dynamic and graceful depictions of dancers, many influenced by the ancient statues of Tanagra. In 1927, he was awarded a Medal of honor for his outstanding contributions to the arts. His lifelong collaborator and best friend, Max Le Verrier, cast many—if not all—of his pieces through the Le Verrier Foundry, ensuring the highest standards of quality and craftsmanship.
This rare and important sculpture represents the pinnacle of French Art Deco design, making it a museum-quality addition to any collection.
