Rare Federal Carved Gilt Eagle Wall Mount
American, New England, ca. 1800-1820
Pine, gesso, gilt
Over-all in fine condition, minor imperfections, retaining most of its original gilt, iron straps on verso.
Provenance: New England Family Collection; Private Collection, San Francisco, Ca.
A rare example of a Federal American Bald Eagle, displayed with outstretched wings, clasping a sphere while perched on a plinth. Stylistically carved with an elongated neck and pronounced feet, other elements of construction visible include early iron brackets and forged nails.
