Description
Rare Red Leather Fire Bucket
English, circa 1840
With leather handle and centrally emblazoned with the British Royal Coat of Arms. Such decorated buckets were associated with institutions and establishments under Crown authority.
I love objects whose original function has completely transformed over time, and in this case quite dramatically. This was basically a fire extinguisher. Now it might sit by the fire to hold kindling! -
