Very rare and unique cigar box in teak and silver. Designed by Tapio Wirkkala. Very sleak and elegant piece for someone who appreciates the "finer things" in life.
The item is marked with the standard Tapio Wirkkala manufacturers stamp "TW", under which is the carving "Martti Heikkinen 14.2 -75" indicating that it was mist likely a gift to this individual.
Rarely does a designer command such an expansive talent and career as Wirkkala did. Inspired by nature and armed with exceptional understanding of geomety and ratios, his designs literally shaped much of our daily lives.
Designs ranging from daily items such as money, jewellery, cutlery, working tools, furniture, logos, etc. to purely artistic creations.
You name it, he designed it!
He tackled and mastered all workable materials like marble and stone as a sculptor to wood, fabric, glass, ceramics, metals and plastic. He did it all and can deservingly be named the da Vinci of Finnish design. -
