The Abalone Desk Set was one of the most popular produced by the Tiffany Studios. Noted for its “fine workmanship” in the company’s sales booklets, the Abalone set features incised decoration of coiling vines and stylized grape clusters formed by inset discs of naturally iridescent abalone shell.

This bronze inkwell from the Abalone Desk Set, in its original bright gold patina, is decorated with the grape motif on all four sides in addition to the hinged lid. The inset abalone discs feature tones of purple, pink, green and blue, accented by a silvery iridescence.

This rare example of original Tiffany Studios metalwork is stamped with firm’s mark and model number.
