Description
French vernacular folk art basket dating to the 19th century, constructed from densely woven natural fibres and reinforced with simple wooden rods. The rectangular body combines tightly woven panels with rhythmic openwork bands, while several loop handles are incorporated directly into the construction. The visible wooden framework, irregular weave and variations in the fibres emphasize its handmade, utilitarian character. Its precise original function is unknown and has therefore deliberately not been specified. A closely related example is also available and sold individually.
