Art Deco Glass Vase "Tribal Faces" by Verrerie d'Art Degué (David Guéron)

$ 4,900
  • Description
    A striking Art Deco glass vase by Verrerie d'Art Degué, the celebrated Paris glassworks founded in 1926 by David Guéron. Rendered in deep amethyst/Bordeaux glass, the bulbous, spherical form is decorated on opposing sides with a pair of stylized tribal or "primitive" faces — a recurring Art Deco motif drawing on the period's fascination with African and Oceanic tribal art — each face framed by radiating, faceted rays evoking a headdress or sunburst. The body is left with a heavily textured, granular surface between the medallions, contrasting against the polished, deeply modeled faces and creating a rich interplay of light and shadow characteristic of Degué's most sculptural output.

    Founded by David Guéron (also artistic director of the Cristalleries de Compiègne), Verrerie d'Art Degué became one of the most influential names in French Art Deco glass, known for bold color, geometric and stylized figural motifs, and technical innovations including acid-etching, sandblasting, and multi-layered glass. This "Tribal Faces" vase is a striking example of the firm's sculptural, high-relief work, distinct from its more common acid-etched floral and geometric vases.
